Biden was widely criticized for waiting until his 64th day in office before holding a formal press briefing. However, Harris on the other has received a pass for staying quiet on the border crisis.
Last week, Vice President Kamala Harris was tapped to lead efforts to address the migration issues at the southern border, where the country is facing what’s been described as a “humanitarian crisis” amid an influx of migrants coming to the U.S.
The mainstream media kept mum even after Biden tapped Harris to lead efforts to solve the crisis at the border.
A media critic made a comment to this stating that the media is unwilling to challenge the Vice President even after assuming the key role in addressing the situation.
“The traditional media thus far has not shown an interest in demanding transparency about the border crisis in general, and is apparently unwilling to challenge Harris even though she has assumed the key role in addressing the situation,” Jeffrey McCall, DePauw University professor and media critic said.

The White House also did not respond when they were asked if Biden expects Harris to be holding a formal press briefing about the situation at the border.
Harris’ assigned efforts on immigration include overseeing diplomatic efforts with Northern Triangle countries, which also means the broader trend of Biden delating substantial foreign policy responsibilities to her.
For instance, the Vice President has held solo phone calls with major world leaders such as Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Since the start of the new administration and a week after Biden’s announcement that Harris would be leading the border crisis, Harris has yet to hold a formal press conference. Meanwhile, the border crisis has captured the attention of the nation and has raised a string of concerns about national security as well as the stability of the U.S. immigration system as a whole.

When Biden first announced his attention to appointing Harris, he said she would be in charge of working to return migrants to their home countries.
Biden said last Wednesday, “So this new surge we’re dealing with now started with the last administration, but it’s our responsibility to deal with it humanely and to – and to stop what’s happening.”
The President added, “And so, this increase has been consequential, but the vice president has agreed – among the multiple other things that I have her leading – and I appreciate it – agreed to lead our diplomatic effort and work with those nations to accept re- – the returnees, and enhance migration enforcement at their borders – at their borders.”
After Biden’s announcement, the White House However later attempted to claim that Harris was NOT involved with the border crisis. The White House claimed that instead, the Vice President is focused on addressing the “root causes – not the border.”

The overwhelming flow of migrants at the border has led to the viral pictures of migrants packed into closed quarters amid surging coronavirus infections. This scenario raised questions about two of the Biden-Harris’ central attacks on former President Trump during the campaign period.
During the campaign, Biden frequently lambasted Trump for not taking the pandemic seriously. He also assailed Trump’s purported “cruelty” in placing migrant children in cages.
