In 2023, it’s pretty safe to say that much of the world has moved on from cumbersome COVID restrictions. Most countries have significantly reduced their travel limitations, if not rolled them back entirely.
Here in the United States, many businesses likewise rolled back rules that required people to wear face coverings or show vaccine passports in order to receive service.
For all intents and purposes, the world has certainly progressed into what most would deem to be a “post-COVID era.”
As the 2024 presidential election takes place, the changing world is going to matter when candidates make their case to the American public. Former President Trump, picking up on this dynamic, recently made a critical campaign promise during a stop in Iowa, per RSB Network.
Setting the Record Straight
During a speech in Davenport, the former president clearly stated that if he’s reelected in 2024, he won’t give any funding to schools that still have vaccine or mask mandates on the books.
In making this promise, Trump also said it would apply to not just grade schools, but also schools that extend from kindergarten all the way to college.
Later, Trump also addressed other topics that pertain to education. After noting the gains that Iowa’s made in implementing school choice, the former president said he will fight to ensure all 50 states have school choice, should he win in 2024.

In other comments, Trump has been clear that he intends to stand by parental rights, while also fighting against woke, racially charged curricula, such as critical race theory.
Polling shows that many Americans are not in favor of politically charged lesson plans that veer from the traditional lessons children are taught when they go to school.
Other Republicans in the 2024 primary race will likely have similar policies to offer voters as well.
Mindfulness of the General Consensus
On social media, Americans have made clear their interest in steering away from mask mandates and vaccine mandates. In fact, even left-wing communities that were once standing by these measures are now gradually distancing themselves from them.
A huge part of the 2024 presidential election is going to require candidates to pay attention to what Americans want. It will also demand candidates to observe the general consensus on hot-button issues, such as education and COVID restrictions.

On both of these issues, many Democrats have found themselves to be misaligned with the desires of the country. For instance, the left generally opposes school choice; whereas many parents favor the ability to choose where they send their kids to receive an education.
