The current administration efforts to accelerate and facilitate the development of the coronavirus vaccine worked with “remarkable efficiency” according to a new report published by the New York Times.
President Trump’s Operation Warp Speed in the development, manufacturing, and distribution of therapeutics, diagnostics, and vaccines did a huge push in efforts to end the coronavirus pandemic. Experts indicate in a new report from The New York Times that they have a “genuine confidence” that the pandemic will end “far sooner” than what they originally expected.

Operation Warp Speed that was initiated by the Trump administration appears to have been working with remarkable efficiency. This agreement by the government to subsidize vaccine companies’ clinical trials and manufacturing costs has put more than $11 Billion into the seven coronavirus candidates and to the FDA. This action by the administration will also approve any one of these vaccines that are shown to be at least 50% effective in preventing infection or in reducing the virus’s severity.
According to Donald McNeil Jr., New York Times science reporter, the events are moving faster than he thought possible. He has become continuously optimistic about the events. Furthermore, he said that experts are saying with genuine confidence that the coronavirus pandemic in the US will be over possibly by the middle of next year, which is far sooner than they have expected.
McNeil also noted that the United States is doing much better than it did during the Spanish Influenza that costs around 675,000 American lives. He said at that time, the country’s population was 103 Million and if that will be converted to today, that is equivalent to 2 million deaths.
There Will Be Enough Doses For All Americans By June Next Year
Health experts also said that sometime in the coming three months, the FDA would likely start giving permission to vaccines, as shown in the report.
Moncef Slaoui, Operation Warp Speed’s chief scientific adviser, also believes that some of the earlier vaccine candidates will be 70% – 90% effective. There are at least two that will have won approval by sometime in January.
Dr. Slaoui has estimated that by that time, the manufacturers of the vaccines under contract will have already produced enough vaccine for at least 30 to 40 Million people. Every month after that, they will produce another batch for 80 to 90 Million people. The doctor further said that assuming nothing goes wrong, there will be enough vaccine doses for all of the 330 million Americans by next June.
Military Is On Standby To Assist In The Rapid Distribution Of Any Vaccines
The military is on standby to assist in distributing any vaccine that will more likely become available. The report also noted that the people’s skepticism and hesitation in taking the vaccine would quickly fade as more people are starting to weigh the relatively low risk of a vaccine against the potential effects that they would experience if they contract the virus.
Despite the chaos in the politics and the fights over issues like wearing masks and lockdown, the Operation Warp Speed worked efficiently in helping the country in the development, manufacturing, and distribution of the coronavirus vaccine.
