Sleepy Joe, Kamala Bid to Save Humanity From Artificial Intelligence Doom

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris called up a meeting of Big Tech heads – allegedly to guarantee the rapid recent advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology won’t destroy humanity in some kind of a doomsday scenario.

Biden Goes Beyond His Own ‘Artificial Intelligence’

The recent advancements of AI chatbots in particular – such as Microsoft’s ChatGPT, which is rivaled by Google’s Bard – led multiple pundits to speak out with concerns that making AI more and more powerful might spell trouble for humanity.

Earlier this year, a letter signed by 1,000 tech industry leaders, among them Apple’s co-founder Steve Wozniak and Twitter owner Elon Musk, insisted AI progress ought to be stopped to allow proper regulations.

Biden and Harris’ meeting with Big Tech leaders was held in preparation for Biden administration “initiatives” that would guarantee artificial intelligence wouldn’t threaten “people’s and safety,” but “improve lives,” AP reported.

The report points out that Biden “briefly dropped by” as the meeting was held in the Roosevelt Room of the White House. Biden wittily declared his hopes that Big Tech chiefs would “educate us” about how to “protect and advance” human society.

He’s Even Trying AI Chatbots

A video posted on the president’s Twitter account shows he also stated AI carries both giant potential and danger. White House officials revealed meanwhile “even Biden” tried out ChatGPT, Microsoft’s chatbot.

Amid the growing concerns about AI’s consequences, the Biden administration announced a $140 million investment in seven new institutes that specialize in artificial intelligence research.

Other measures on the matter include upcoming guidance by the Office of Management and Budget of the White House on how US government bodies could utilize AI tools.

Against that backdrop, AI developers committed to a “public evaluation” of their technology to be held at DEF Con, the Las Vegas hacker convention, in August 2023.

Besides the CEOs of Google and Microsoft, Sundar Pichai and Satya Nadella, the White House meeting also featured the heads of their respective allied AI startups: Microsoft-back OpenAI, which is behind ChatGPT, and Google-backed Anthropic.
