GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene stated on Sunday that she will be introducing a resolution to declare Antifa a terrorist organization on Tuesday.
Greene made this announcement after pointing the finger at Antifa for protests that took place at a police training facility in Atlanta.
On Sunday, she sent out a tweet in which she referred to Antifa as “domestic terrorists” and said she will be proposing a resolution on Tuesday to formally label them as a terrorist group.
Planned Police Training Facility Flocked by Protesters
Since its approval in 2021, just after the nationwide Black Lives Matter demonstrations against police brutality, Atlanta’s police training facility has faced criticism.
Many groups of individuals, including neighborhood associations, local schools, and environmental and forest protection organizations, have spoken out forcefully against the $90 million proposal. The plan is known as “Cop City” since it has a shooting range and a faux settlement.
Since the plans for the new training center were made public, “Stop Cop City” has been protesting against it. Protesters claim it would encourage the militarization of the police and might have negative effects on the environment.

According to authorities, hundreds of protestors stormed the contentious planned site of the police training facility on Sunday at approximately 5:30 p.m., after leaving the neighboring South River Music Festival and donning black attire.
According to Fox 5, the site was placed on lockdown after at least one construction truck was set ablaze during the most recent demonstrations on Sunday. In a video that was made public by the Atlanta Police, it seems that cops were the target of pyrotechnics.
The same video shows protesters hurling rocks and Molotov cocktails at police, as well as a truck that turned over and burst into flames. Protesters were trying to light other pieces of construction equipment on fire.
The event was described by Schierbaum as an “organized, criminal onslaught upon cops.”
Greene Deemed Antifa as Communist Organization
On Twitter, Greene assigned responsibility for the event to the far-left movement Antifa, despite the fact she did not provide any proof to support her claim that Antifa was the group responsible for the demonstrations on Sunday.
We are witnessing an act of domestic terrorism. It took many weeks to organize and announcements were made on several social media platforms.
Antifa attacked the Atlanta future Public Safety Training Facility.
This is domestic terrorism.
It was planned for weeks and announced on social media.

The Republican governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, declared a state of emergency in January after peaceful demonstrations broke out in response to a police shooting of an activist during an operation to clear out the construction site for the facility.
It seems unlikely that Greene’s proposed resolution would be the first of its type.
In 2021, GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert proposed a resolution to identify Antifa as a terrorist group. However, the measure did not get any support in the House, which was controlled by Democrats at the time.
