The Democratic mayor of College Park, Maryland, Patrick Wojahn, quit the day before he was charged with 56 charges of possessing and disseminating child pornography.

Mayor Distributing Child Pornography

When the Prince George’s County police force learned that Wojahn was allegedly running a social networking account that distributed child pornography, they promptly detained him.

On Tuesday, when police raided his College Park house, they found several mobile phones, in addition to a PC, a tablet, and an external hard drive.

According to county officials, the agency began looking into the matter after being warned on February 17 by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a social media profile had possibly spread child pornography.

Police added they were able to link the profile to Wojahn.

After being elected in 2015, he was already in his second term in office as mayor of College Park, which encompasses the campus of the University of Maryland. He was a city councilman for eight years before that.

Mr. Wojahn quit his job on Wednesday and has been fully cooperative with law authorities, according to an email from his lawyer, David Moyse, on Thursday. He said they will endeavor to comply as the process advances, even though it is too soon to comment on the claims.

Wojahn was associated with prominent Democrats, including Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, prior to his detention. According to a 2019 article from The Washington Blade, Pete Buttigieg has tutored Patrick Wojahn throughout the years.

The Diamond Back, a local College Park news source, went further and claimed Buttigieg gave Patrick Wojahn some sound advice and the men had even gone out and socialized together.

Wojahn posted several images of Buttigieg on his social media accounts.

Given that both towns are university towns, Buttigieg offered suggestions for integrating a university into local governance. Wojahn also asked for advice on how to come together to achieve a shared vision and common plan in a city with many ideologies and areas.

He found this to be difficult when he first took office.

For the past few years, Wojahn and Buttigieg have maintained contact. The two men have gotten beers together after Buttigieg performed a campaign event in Riverdale, Maryland, in July.

The humiliated mayor and his spouse were welcomed to the White House in addition to rubbing shoulders with Buttigieg. The Biden administration welcomed Wojahn to the White House to commemorate the enactment of the Respect for Marriage Act.

Wojahn Has Links to Powerful Democrats

A family from College Park, Maryland was one of the numerous couples that came together to observe and commemorate the signing of the Respect for Marriage Act on Tuesday on the South Lawn of the White House.

The gathering was definitely a momentous occasion, declared College Park Mayor Patrick Wojahn, who was present alongside his husband, Dave Kolesar.
