Democrats Relying on Dark Money to Win Elections

Democrats are increasingly relying on dark money groups to fund their midterm election campaigns.

According to federal records, many such groups tied with Senator Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have poured in over $20 million of donations for Democrats’ November elections.

Democrats Depending on Dark Money

Political Actions Committee (PAC), linked to Senate majority and House majority groups, are the beneficiaries of the dark money being pushed into the system.

These PACs will finance the campaigns of many Democrats, who themselves are against the use of dark money in elections.

As per the Federal Election Commission record, Majority Forward is the biggest contributor of dark money to the midterm elections.

This non-profit channeled almost $15 million into the elections through a PAC up to March 15 and has not revealed the names of the donors.

One of the oldest friends of Schumer, J.B Poersch, is the president of both the Majority Fund and the PAC.

This comes at a time when the spokesperson of the Majority Fund told Fox News Republicans are actually responsible for reducing transparency in election finance laws.

He asserted that as long as Mitch McConnell does not convince his fellow Senate Republicans to pass campaign finance reforms, Democrats will continue to “level the playing field.”

Majority Forward is the same group that contributed almost $60 million to Democratic campaigns in the 2020 election, which helped the party win the Senate.

Thus, the organization donated a massive sum of over $75 million for the 2022 and 2020 election cycles, which marks a significant increase from its donation of $5.5 million in the 2016 and 2018 elections combined.

Chuck Schumer is one of the biggest critics of the use of dark money in American elections.

He previously claimed dark money “corrupted our politics.” Similarly, the senator has also emphasized that conservative groups should disclose the names of their donors. Yet, this time, he is silent.

Apart from this, House Majority Forward, another non-profit organization, is pumping dark money into the elections. Reportedly, this group contributed almost $2.5 million to help House Democrats clinch the show.

Nancy Pelosi, who will be the biggest beneficiary of this money, is also one of the critics of dark money in American elections.

Democrats Have a History of Using Dark Money to Win

This is not the first time Democrats are using dark money to grab power in Washington. According to the New York Times, 15 top dark money groups contributed a sum of $1.5 billion for Democrats in the 2020 election.

Contrary to this, Republicans, who are usually blamed for using dark money, received an accumulative donation of $900 million in the last election cycle.

Arabella Advisors, a Washington-based consulting dark money firm, raised almost $1.6 billion in the 2020 cycle and contributed $896 million to help Democrats win the elections.
