Biden shows ultimate hypocrisy as his administration will REOPEN the migrant detention facility for children that he used to criticize under the Trump administration.
During the campaign period, Biden constantly decries “kids in cages,” referring to Texas’s child migrant detention facility that the Trump administration used. However, it looks like Biden is having a taste of his own medicine as his administration will REOPEN the facility to accommodate the increasing number of unaccompanied children on the southern border.
The move of the Biden administration sparked outrage from some Democratic lawmakers.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fired powerful words against the Biden administration after news surfaced that it is reopening a child migrant detention facility in Texas.
Last Tuesday, AOC wrote on Twitter, “This is not okay, never has been okay, never will be okay – no matter the administration or party.”
Our immigration system is built on a carceral framework. It’s no accident that challenging how we approach both these issues are considered “controversial” stances.
They require reimagining our relationship to each other and challenging common assumptions we take for granted.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also added, “It’s only 2 mos into this admin & our fraught, unjust immigration system will not transform in that time. That’s why bold reimagination is so impt. DHS shouldn’t exist, agencies should be reorganized, ICE gotta go, ban for-profit detention, create climate refugee status & more.”

Another Democratic representative, Rep. Ilhan Omar also posted on Twitter stating, “Multiple administrations have made the callous choice to lock up thousands of children seeking refuge in the United States of America.”

As long as we see people seeking a better life as “aliens” instead of fellow human beings, our immigration system will continue to fail us. https://t.co/xE1lmgSnJj

Omar further added, “As long as we see people seeking a better life as ‘aliens’ instead of fellow human beings, our immigration system will continue to fail us.”
The child migrant detention facility that is located in Carrizo Springs will be reopening once again after the Trump administration used it amid the migrant crisis in 2019.
According to a report by the Washington Post, the facility will be used to house 700 minor teenagers after the coronavirus pandemic limited the capacities of other facilities.
This shocking news raised a lot of questions about how Biden would be handling the expected influx of unaccompanied immigrant children illegally crossing the southern border of the United States.
Just for the record, the Biden Administration IS separating children and parents, and building trailer park cages to hold those children. Where is the outrage from the left. We will interpret your silence as confirmation you never actually cared about kids ‘in cages.’ @AOC https://t.co/gHFse4ZGfX

It can be noted that during the campaign period, Biden constantly mentioned “kids in cages,” as he referred to how Trump uses the child migrant detention facility to house children crossing the border. Also, in 2019, Biden pledged to end child migrant detention.
Reopening the detention facility is ultimately contrary to what he pledged to do.
From what it appears, the Biden administration will be continuously using the facility and will proceed with the practice of detaining children even after mocking the Trump administration for using it and for creating a policy that led to the separation of families.
Then, on Monday, a spokesperson told Fox News that Biden’s strategy is to deal with immigration comprehensively, fairly and humanely.
“The policy of this administration is not to expel unaccompanied children who arrive at our borders. The Border Patrol will continue to transfer unaccompanied children to the HHS Office of Refugee Resettlement so they may be properly cared for in an appropriate shelter, consistent with their best interest,” the spokesperson added.
When asked for more details on whether the children in the child migrant detention facility are basically being “detained” by the Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the White House official suggested instead to go ask the CBP for details.

Meanwhile, White House press secretary Jen Psaki also made the similar remarks on Tuesday, saying that the Biden administration’s policy is focused on not “expelling” unaccompanied children.
Psaki also said, in defense of Biden administration’s decision to reopen the facility, “The process, how it works, is that Customs and Border control continue to transfer unaccompanied children to the HHS Office of Refugee Resettlement.”
Former acting Deputy Homeland Security Secretary Ken Cuccinelli told Fox News on Monday, that any time CBP forcibly held children in custody, they were detained.
“If they’re not free to leave, it’s detention, regardless of the nature of the facility,” Cuccinelli said.
On Tuesday, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez again took it on twitter as she commented that the U.S. immigration system was built on a “carceral framework.”
