Biden on COVID-19: There’s NOTHING We Can Do To Change the Trajectory

On Monday, President Biden was pressed during a press conference over his comments from last week, saying there’s “nothing we can do to change the trajectory of the Pandemic.”

Fox News reported Peter Dorcy asked Biden about the comments he made last week at the end of the press conference, to which he made a remark and stated, “I know he always asks me tough questions, and he always has an edge to them.” He continued, “but I like him anyway. So go ahead and ask the question.”

Doocy then went ahead and asked a question saying, “so you just said you think in three weeks or so, we’ll be at the point where there are a million vaccines per day, but it seems like..”

But even before the reporter gets to finish his sentence, Biden interrupted him and said that he “misspoke.” He then continued and said that he hopes to increase the vaccine distribution until they get to 1.5 million a day. 

The Fox News reported then pressed Biden and made a follow-up question saying, “now you’re president and saying there’s nothing that we can do to change the trajectory of the pandemic in the next several months.” He continued and asked, “what happened to two months ago when you were talking declaratively about ‘I’m going to shut down the virus?'”

To which Biden responded with, “I am going to shut down the virus, but I never said I’d do it in two months.” The President continued and said that it took a long time to get to this point and that “it’s going to take a long time to beat it.” He added, “It takes time, it’s going to take a heck of a lot of time.” 

Biden then added that the first thing that happens after the holidays is that the number of COVID infections goes up, hospitalizations rose, and then the deaths go higher. “So we’re in this for a while. What are we now, 410,000 deaths? There’s going to be more,” Biden said. 

In the previous week, Joe Biden received a backlash after saying at a press conference that there is “nothing we can do to change the trajectory of the Pandemic.”

This statement gathered much attention as it comes in contrary to what he repeatedly claimed during the campaign period of “ending the pandemic. 

During the said press conference last Friday, Biden was talking about his “American Rescue Plan” when he made remarks about how his administration cannot change the course of the COVID-19 pandemic in the next months.

On his first full day as President, Biden signed series of Executive Orders, included among them is the promise to pursue a “full-scale wartime effort” to fight the Coronavirus pandemic. Then, on Friday, he again issued another order which aims to add “federal aid to families struggling to afford food amid the pandemic and helping workers stay safe on the job.”

In his statement, Biden addressed the wave of evictions as more and more people lose their jobs. He then stated, “If we fail to act, there will be a wave of evictions and foreclosures in the coming months as this pandemic rages on because there’s nothing we can do to change the trajectory of the pandemic in the next several months.” 

These remarks made by the Democratic President caused online critics to express their sentiments and frustration. Former Congressman Justin Amash wrote on Twitter, “Haven’t we been told for months that restrictions and mandates were necessary to change the trajectory of the pandemic in the next several months?”

Political commentator Dave Rubin also wrote on Twitter saying, “From ‘two weeks to flatten the curve’ a year ago to basically ‘we don’t have a clue’ today. We get it. They’re all incompetent buffoons drunk on power and our money. Fine then. Open the country. Now.”
