The southern border has been in shambles for going on two years now. Not long after Biden was sworn into office, he went to work at eliminating the border reforms put in place during the Trump administration.
Meanwhile, Biden also failed to put in policies that would curtail illegal immigration and keep border crossings at a minimum. Therefore, the number of illegal crossings went up and Border Patrol really bore the brunt of the chaos.
States along the southern border, such as Arizona and Texas, have also been forced to contend with serious problems of this nature. According to CNS News, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is holding Biden’s feet to the fire over problems that exist on the southern border.
A Closer Look at Points Made By Abbott
Biden recently made headlines for vowing to visit the southern border within a matter of days. However, Abbott is warning that Biden’s newfound stance of publicly addressing the border crisis is little more than show.
Per the Texas governor, Biden still has yet to go into details regarding specific measures he will take to curtail illegal immigration.
Furthermore, the president is failing to embrace effective measures (Title 42, the construction of a border wall, and Remain in Mexico) that kept illegal immigration at bay when Trump was in office.
It’s about time President Biden visited the border to see for himself the crisis his open border policies have created.

Ultimately, it is Abbott’s view that Biden’s upcoming visit to the southern border will amount to little more than a photo-op carried out for political purposes.
At the end of the day, the Texas governor warns that in order for anything to change at the southern border, Biden needs to get serious, start actively enforcing immigration laws, and put together a comprehensive plan to seriously drive down the rates of unlawful crossings.
Needless to say, the president has not taken any of the aforementioned steps and there’s no indication that he has any such plan of doing so.
Lies About the Southern Border
Another issue Abbott pointed out is the extent to which the Biden administration keeps lying about what’s really happening on the southern border. In real-time, DHS secretary Alejandro Mayorkas insists that the border is, in fact, closed.
Unfortunately, the rates of illegal immigration, illicit drugs coming across the border, and more very much prove otherwise. Many Americans are fed up with inaction from this administration when it comes to the southern border.

Several Republicans have even stated Mayorkas ought to be impeached for his failed management of the southern border and illegal immigration. Going forward, time will tell what comes in regard to immigration reform this year.
