AOC “Mocking” the Concerns of Ordinary People, Calling It “Hysteria”

Far-left Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez referred dismissed concerns over the rising crime rates all over the country, calling it “hysteria.”

The New York Democrat Representative was having a zoom call with her colleague Representative Jamaal Bowman when she mentioned that the rising crime rates are mere hysteria.

Ocasio-Cortez wants to make sure “hysteria” doesn’t cause more “hysteria”

In the call, Ocasio-Cortez mentioned that Americans see these headlines about the rising percentage in crime rates. She added that any type of harm is unacceptable and labeled it as “too much.” Yet, she also wanted to make sure that this “hysteria” does not cause more “hysteria.

Ocasio-Cortez then added that they want to look at these percentages in a way where they can make responsible decisions about what to provide in that given context.

As violent crimes are rising all over the country (particularly in the largest cities in the U.S., including Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York), Republicans and local officials argued that this surge in crime rate results from the Democrats’ effort to defund the police.

Earlier this month, it can be noted that Ocasio-Cortez also pushed local officials to stop building prisons. She suggested that they should instead redirect their attention to public health issues. She also argued that it is not acceptable that the country uses jails as “garbage bins.”

The Democrat representative then suggested an absurd idea, saying that if we wanted to reduce the number of people in U.S. prisons, the answer is to stop building more prisons.

Ocasio-Cortez then added that the government should build more hospitals, pay organizers and get people the overall healthcare, mental healthcare, and employment that they need. She then claimed that this is to support communities instead of “throwing them away.”

Glenn Greenwald: AOC is “mocking” the concerns of ordinary people

Meanwhile, the comments made by Ocasio-Cortez attracted harsh criticism on social media. One of them is Glenn Greenwald, a journalist who suggested that the Democrat representative was “mocking” the concerns of ordinary people about the rising violence in their cities, while seeking protection for herself.

Greenwald wrote in a tweet that Ocasio-Cortez is mocking ordinary people and calling those who are scared of violent crime in their community “hysterical.” He then continued, stating that these people she calls “hysterical” do not have reams of private security, unlike her.

The journalist also added that Ocasio-Cortez has the audacity to label the people’s concerns as “hysteria”; meanwhile, she recently acted to make sure that $2 billion more funds are placed on the police that keeps her safe.

The statements made by Ocasio-Cortez come despite the spike in overall shooting incidents in her city.

According to the latest crime data from the New York Police Department, the overall shooting incidents in the city spiked to over 53.2%. On top of that, murder rates also increased to 13.3%.
