The 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting sent nationwide shockwaves. Parents in Connecticut had their lives forever changed, especially those who lost children in the shooting.
However, in the wake of the massacre, InfoWars host Alex Jones had a different take on the event. Jones alleged the massacre was designed to push gun control, even claiming some of the people involved were crisis actors.
Eventually, this led to fans of Jones going after Sandy Hook parents, forcing them to move, and otherwise terrorizing them. Later came the defamation lawsuit against Jones from multiple parents who were negatively impacted by his false claims of the shooting being a hoax.
On Thursday, Jones was finally ordered to pay more than $4 million in damages to the parents of Sandy Hook victims, per Newsmax.
What to Know About the Verdict Against Jones
The jury overseeing the case against Jones in Austin, Texas determined the InfoWars host must fork over millions in damages to the parents of a six-year-old boy who died during the Sandy Hook massacre.
However, the $4.1 million isn’t the last that Jones will have to pay. The Austin jury also has yet to announce how much Jones will need to fork over to other parents in additional cases who lost their children in the deadly 2012 shooting.

News of this verdict went viral on Wednesday with many folks saying that Jones deserved the ruling from the jury. However, some people questioned what the ruling meant for freedom of speech and First Amendment rights in America.
This ruling comes as InfoWars’ parent company filed for bankruptcy amid the trial. Reportedly, Jones has also been doxxed with his residence and cell number leaked online.
Likely Financial Ruin
Judging from previous statements made by Jones, he may not be in the position to fork over the more than $4 million he owes to the parents of the Sandy Hook children.
According to the InfoWars host himself, having to pay more than $2 million in damages would financially devastate him. Meanwhile, his own attorneys requested for the damages he pays to be limited to less than $10.

Amid the trial, Jones did apologize for calling the Sandy Hook shooting a hoax. However, the parents weren’t satisfied and told the jury Jones should be held criminally accountable for the impacts of his words.
The jury agreed and this week’s ruling could very well open the door to similar verdicts against Jones. If the InfoWars host is ultimately unable to pay the money he owes, then this opens an entirely new can of worms (and potential legal issues) for him.
